It is night time but a lantern is lighting up the scene. In the foreground we can see some soldiers. They all have rifles and they are shooting at some defenceless people. We can only see the soldiers' backs. They are wearing thick coats and warm hats, so it is probably winter. In front of the soldiers are the citizens. In this case, we see them face on. They are all men. They are poorly dressed. Several of them are lying dead on the ground, which is covered in blood. Others are cowering and they look terrified. Some of them are covering their eyes in terror as they wait to be shot. One of them looks like a priest or a monk, and he seems to be praying for the dead men. The man in the centre of the group has a white shirt that is shining in the light coming from the lantern. He has his arms raised and seems to be appealing for mercy to the soldiers.
