WHO = QUE

WHO se refiere a una persona, o a varias.

I have two friends who can play the piano.



WHICH = QUE

WHICH se refiere a una cosa, o a un animal.

I live in a house which has three bedrooms.



He doesn't like Mexican food, which is too spicy for him.

He doesn't like Mexican food, which is a pity.



THAT = QUE

I have two friends that can play the piano.
I live in a house that has three bedrooms.

My friends Tom and George, who can play the piano, are coming to the party.

I've lived in this house, which has three bedrooms, since I was born.



WHOSE = CUYO, CUYA, CUYOS, CUYAS

The man whose car is parked in front of my house is my neighbour.

The man is my neighbour. His car is parked in front of my house.



WHERE = DONDE

WHERE se usa para referirnos a un lugar, y sustituye a palabras como HERE o THERE:

My uncle is in France. He has a house there.

My uncle is in France, where he has a house.



WHEN = CUANDO; (año, mes, etc.) EN (EL) QUE

My grandmother's birthday, when all our family gets together, is in March.

WHOM = A QUIEN

Igual que se usa HIM en lugar de HE,
y THEM en lugar de THEY,
se usa WHOM en lugar de WHO
cuando necesitamos un pronombre objeto,
y no un pronombre sujeto: para las funciones
de objeto directo, objeto indirecto, o detrás
de una preposición:

The man whom you met yesterday is rich.

Sin embargo, muchos hablantes ingleses evitan esta palabra, porque la consideran demasiado formal o les resulta demasiado difícil saber cuándo se debe usar. Entonces sustituyen WHOM por THAT, o bien omiten el pronombre relativo:

The man that you met yesterday is rich.
The man you met yesterday is rich.

Cuando va detrás de una preposición, se puede colocar la preposición detrás del verbo, y sustituir u omitir WHOM:

The man about whom we were talking is a millionaire.
The man whom we were talking about is a millionaire.
The man that we were talking about is a millionaire.
The man we were talking about is a millionaire.
