Lexis. Class procedure
The LEXIS project is based on a simple DOS program that does not
require a powerful computer (it can work on a 286 that does not have
Windows). It should also work in the Linux DOS emulator,
but it hasn't been actually tested.
Its main database is a hybrid English-Spanish dictionary, aimed at
Spanish compulsory secondary school students.
This dictionary contains exemples of use in both languages and explanations
in Spanish, written in DOS text format, and can be freely modified and
expanded.
Besides, the program allows the use of up to nine additional data files,
whose contents (class notes, personal agenda, lists of books, videos,
CD's, etc.) can be freely chosen by the user. As an example, a text with
explanations and exercises on the English verbal system is included.
The LEXIS project is conceived as a classroom activity to be carried out
with full groups of students along a variable period of time, depending on
how many groups take part in it. At present, after its "first edition", the
main dictionary has some 8500 lines including about 1700 entries, although
examples are still needed for many entries.
